Force x Time

Lynette Lewis

In this piece, Lynette tries to demonstrate the impulse equation on the dancers’ bodies by playing with rhythms, dynamics and angular movements that resemble the lines on an impulse graph.

Unlocked

Brenna Hayes

“Unlocked” is a physical diary exploring thought and emotion when a decision must be made; possibly forcing someone to choose physical health over mental health and overcoming isolation.

Beautiful Fruit

Showreels

De'Aira McCrory

Beautiful Fruit is about the journey of finding ones truest self. Self awareness, self acceptance and self love are the stages to freeing yourself of misconceptions of who you thought you were. Being your truest self is where true beauty lies.

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness” Galatians 5:22

Wonders of the Woman

Malia Craft

This piece explores an array of some of the most widely acknowledged traits of the female population. This is observed from the perspective of society and the world around us. The true experience of what it actually feels like, looks like and means to be a woman in these present times, is also taken into account. This exploration includes aspects of women's lives and personalities that we are often most defined by and reminded of each and every day. Though women are often seen as beautiful and seductive beings, we encapsulate the ability to achieve and to be so much more. This piece reiterates the complexities that make women the magnificent creatures that we know them to be.

Live with Heart

Baylee Davenport

Baylee Davenport’s senior piece, “Live with Heart”, explores the concept of vulnerability and what that may look like internally, externally, and in relationship with others.

The Space in Between

Claire Korfas

There is a theory that mentions we experience our biggest periods of growth after losses in life, and while loss can be related to death, it does not have to be. For me, I spent a long time grieving the loss of myself. Mental health disorders are a silent battle, and sometimes you have to get to the lowest point to rise from that. Growth is ever present, and through grief, I have pushed myself to give, receive and grow.  Times have been tough, but working with this cast has given me a space to honor life, loss, grief, growth, and deepen my awareness of the love that guides me through. I am proud of myself and my growth, but I am even more proud of my incredible cast.

Please enjoy my seniors thesis, The Space in Between.

if you're going through hell, keep going.

For my senior piece I wanted to depict the lessons I have learned throughout my time here while also sharing my story. While it does have a slight focus on mental health and the things I struggled/still struggle with, I didn’t want to project those emotions in a negative way onto the audience. A lesson I learned is that your thoughts have a direct correlation to how your life plays out, and I used to have super negative thoughts which resulted in a negative way in life, so by reminding myself of the small things in life that bring me happiness I was able to shift my overall view on life to be more positive. I found that the best style of dance to help project these types of emotions is hip-hop, hence why I call this a hip-hop, contemporary extravaganza.

Art decorates a wall the same way that music decorates the mind, and the music I chose helps reflect those emotions lyrically but also rhythmically. You don’t have to struggle though the challenges you are faced with in life alone, and surrounding myself with the right people helped me realize that. The things you struggle with are smaller than the potential impact you can have on the world. There were so many times that I just wanted to give up on my dreams but you can achieve any dream or goal you have, you just have to never stop believing in yourself. When times get hard always remember that if you’re going through hell, keep going.

None of this could have been done without our amazing casts and crews. Thank you for being there and supporting us through these uncertain times.
